Design of a new 15,000 sf Animal Shelter for the City of Moore. The building features a dramatic angular entry canopy that protects the public and staff from inclement weather while allowing north light to permeate the lobby and features clerestory lighting, which allows for daylight to permeate the facility. Finishes are durable, yet warm including wood ceilings and tile wainscot on the adoption area walls. The facility will be bright and cheerful, keeping in mind retail characteristics for the public, and the need for natural lighting to reduce stress levels for the animals. The facility has numerous HVAC safety-related systems, including Dedicated Outside Air Systems, Hepa Filtration, Needle Point Bi-polar Ionization, and UVC light treatments to kill or treat air-born pathogens. Adoption and holding areas are separately zoned to reduce the chance of disease transmission. All holding areas utilize 100% outside air to eliminate odors and disease transmission. The facility includes a large meeting/training room, intake, holding, and adoption areas for dogs, cats, and small animals, quarantine areas, and a surgical suite for animal care. There are also offices for animal control officers, and a ICC 500 safe room for staff. Generous outdoor play areas are included adjacent to the kennels. Final budget was $8.2 MM and the project bid for $7.7MM, allowing for the remaining funds to be used for enhancements, equipment and FF&E.
