The Martin Park Nature Center is a 4,300 sf visitor and interpretive center for the City of Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department. The project resulted from a Programming Study conducted in 2015 that identified numerous upgrades to allow the building to better meet fhe needs of the staff and visitors. A new “front door” was added with a cor-ten canopy. The building envelope was renovated and a number of windows connecting nature to the interior were added. Interior ceilings and LED lighting was added with daylight photo controls and occupancy sensors. Exhibit themes of the cross timbers were realized in the floor tile pattern. New finishes were added throughout and a specialized exhibit design was developed featuring a “Terrarium Wall” to showcase the live animal exhibits, and live animal support areas were added.
